Fire door installations should only be carried out by ‘competent’ individuals with experience, knowledge, and training. Third-party accreditation such as FIRAS, UKAS or BRE certification is also desirable, but this is not a legal requirement provided that the installation work is signed off by a competent person and a certificate of correct installation provided.

Fire Door Installation Services Overview

Every installation should be certified on completion for both the products used to BS476 Pt 22 and installed to BS 8214 2016. At Active Fire Safety Solutions we oversee our independent installers so that every contract is tightly controlled, and we issue the completion certificate, so we stand any liability should anything go wrong with the installation.

The critical issue on installing is that the frame/lining must be adequately sealed and secured against the opening it is fitted within. The failure with newly installed doors and frames is usually where the fame meets the walls. Any ‘competent’ person will be aware of this and ensure it is installed to the appropriate standard.

Upon completion the certification should clearly state it meets both of the British Standards as above. All products and installation should carry a guarantee, usually the products carry a manufacturers guarantee.

Frequently Asked Questions about Fire Door Installations

Below you will find answers to commonly asked questions.

The only time to use local joiners is if they have experience in installing fire doors and frames and they have third party cover or they have a competent person to sign off the work and then issue a certificate of installation satisfaction stating it has been installed to BS 8214 2016. If they are unaware of this British Standard then our advice is to find an alternative installer.

Absolutely yes. It should have a kite mark or evidence from the manufacturer that it meets all current fire safety standards.
