The general term ‘fire safety’ or ‘fire prevention’ includes a range of provisions, where your property is required to comply with the current fire laws in the UK and ultimately to ensure anyone using your premises are safe from fire. The level of your fire safety provisions, and therefore the costs, will depend on the size of your undertaking, the number of people using your building and its purpose of use.
We offer a no-nonsense approach, with factual, honest, down to earth information, no pushy salesperson, just education, help and guidance, where it is needed.
Effective fire safety management is the key to a fire safe building. There are two main areas of compliance when assessing the fire risks within a building. The structure of the building (passive measures) including its fire compartments and the active measures such fire alarm systems, emergency lighting, portable fire extinguishers etc and the management of fire safety provisions within your building. We offer contracts which cover both elements above and can be reviewed on an annual basis or whenever the customer requires it.
All buildings where persons are employed to work, or where members of the public may visit, are required by law to have a fire risk assessment completed by a ‘competent’ person and must be documented. We have expert fire risk assessors with many years experience and having served as fire safety officers in Local Authority Fire Services across the uk. In addition they base their sound knowledge having served as operation officers attending many fire incidents over years of service.
Fire stopping is best defined as the sealing of any opening to prevent fire (including smoke and heat) from passing through multiple building compartments and allowing fire and smoke to spread if not completed correctly. We work with an independant fire stopping company and can provide you with a first class service, which we independantly supervise and 'sign off' any work they complete before issuing a compliance certificate.
The fire strategy of a building will be determined by the fire risk assessor and is defined as ‘how a building operates under the condition of fire’. The correct determination of these strategies is of paramount importance particularly where there is a sleeping risk and a 'stay put' policy maybe used. In addition in residential and nursing care homes, horizontal evacuation is usually the strategy used and therefore fire compartment sizes are critical, especially where highly dependant residents are located.
